Android App

Get you an idea of how to start developing Android applications. Introduce major Android application concepts. Walk you through a sample application in the development environment. A free, open source mobile platform. A Linux-based, multiprocess, multithreaded OS. Android is not a device or a product. It’s not even limited to phones - you could build a DVR, a handheld GPS, an MP3 player, etc. Views are building blocks. Examples: TextView, EditText, ListView, ImageView, MapView, WebView.

Controls how Views are laid out :

• Frame Layout : each child a layer
 • Linear Layout : single row or column
 • Relative Layout : relative to other Views
 • Table Layout : rows and columns
• Absolute Layout : <x,y> coordinates

Think of Intents as a verb and object; a description of what you want done:

 • Examples: System matches Intent with Activity that can best provide that service.
 • Activities and Broadcast Receivers describe what Intents they can service in their Intent Filters (via                   AndroidManifest.xml)
Components designed to respond to broadcast Intents:
 • Think of them as a way to respond to external notifications or alarms
 • Applications can invent and broadcast their own Intents as well
Faceless components that run in the background:
• Example: music player, network download, etc.
• Bind your code to a running service via a remote-able interface defined in an IDL.
 • Can run in your own process or separate process.

Enables sharing of data across applications:

 • Examples:  address book, photo gallery, etc.
 • Provides uniform APIs for:
 • querying (returns a Cursor).
 • delete, update, and insert rows.
• Content is represented by URI and MIME type.

Application life cycle is managed by the system:

• Application start/stop is transparent to the user.
 • End-user only sees that they are moving between screens.
• Read documentation for android.app.Activity.

Fine Art

History of Art centers on the study of works of art. These range  from the traditional arts - painting, drawing, sculpture, architecture and print-making - to a wide spectrum of other media: photography, video art, installation or the poster. History of Art explores the relationship between art and society. The art history program seeks to train students in art history skills and concepts needed to develop capabilities in art theory, research, teaching, and criticism. It offers a core program with flexibility in the choice of art history concentrations in various periods and areas, notably the Middle East. To quote,Georgina Bolton.“This course has been perfect for me. The combined nature of the History of Art and Fine Art programme allows for a stimulating fusion of the academic and the creative. Access to the outstanding facilities and dynamic staff provides a diverse yet supportive framework, encouraging a personal development of what I believe is a truly stimulating, well-rounded degree programme” This can take many forms; how was a work of art made, who was it made for and why? How did people understand it originally, and how have interpretations of the work changed over time? How did abstract ideas, social structures, historical processes, or religious beliefs cause works of art to look how they do?

Temple Run

Temple Run is a 2011 endless running video game developed and published by the Raleigh-based Imangi Studios. It is produced, designed and programmed by husband and wife team Keith Shepherd and Natalia Luckyanova, and with art by Kiril Tchangov. The game has the player taking on the role of an explorer who, having stolen an idol from a temple, is chased by "demonic monkeys". The game was initially released for iOS devices, and later ported to Android systems and Windows Phone 8.
A sequel to the original game was released on January 17, 2013 for iOS, and on January 24 for Android.
The map to the game is inspired from the Hindu temple. Ones experience while playing temple run makes my head spin. The sport gives a player an incredible 3D perspective from slightly behind and across the characters. It encompasses hanging around with the swiping of ones screen off to the right or left to produce turns. Moreover, sliding ones finger up the screen leads to a jump, while sliding it down leads to the primary character sliding or performing a limbo under objects. Slight tilts with the idea to sides will enable your character to maneuver the narrow path collecting scattered coins everywhere in the game. The coins a player collects might be invested in power-ups and bonuses to help you one in running in the temple. They can present you with another life or a chance to resurrect after death.
. The representation of graphical themes with every new terrain is exemplary making the action livelier. Even though some users complain of occasional stutters during loading times, the action is quite smooth. However, Temple Run 2 the action can be very repetitive and lacking in any form of strategy or decision-making. The target from the game is to run as far as a player can. Users have received it well as well as the app remains gaining major attraction to the extension into various platforms.
